What this site is

ExpaTax is an independent publication about Portuguese taxes for people who moved here from somewhere else. The guides cover residency, income, filing, and the questions that come with a cross-border life.

Written in plain English. Where the rules are complicated, we say so.

How the guides are written

• We link primary sources beside material corrections. A professional review label appears only when the reviewer and scope are recorded.
• When a material rule changes or an error is found, we correct the guide and record the date and source.
• No pay-to-play content. Nobody buys a recommendation in a guide.

The guides are general information, not personalised tax advice. Your facts change the answer, and for decisions with real money attached you should confirm your position with a qualified professional before acting.
